Fork Shaft Manufacturing

Seamlessly Integrating Machining Steps

The machining of fork shafts places high demands on precision, process reliability, and flexibility. With innovative manufacturing solutions, WEISSER enables cost-effective, complete machining of fork shafts within a highly efficient process chain. A key advantage of WEISSER technology is the consistent reduction of setup changes. By machining complex geometries with as few setups as possible, process steps are strategically bundled, creating the conditions for consistently high dimensional and geometric accuracy.

The result: shorter cycle times, less downtime, and high process reliability.

End-to-End Process Design

Depending on the fork shaft design, the machining process includes machining the fork shaft eye, drilling cross holes, and machining the bearing seats. If the components are designed appropriately, the bearing seats can be pre-turned before hardening. The turning operation serves as productive rough machining and establishes the initial geometry for the subsequent process. After hardening, the bearing seats undergo final machining by grinding. This allows dimensions affected by heat treatment to be specifically corrected and ensures the required final quality of the functional surfaces.

Machining the Fork Shaft Eye and Cross Holes

The complete finishing of the fork shaft eye is an important part of the manufacturing process. The necessary machining operations are performed efficiently and reproducibly on the J.G. WEISSER machine in a single setup. Cross holes can also be integrated into the machining sequence, depending on the specific component design. This allows for flexible production of different variants of the fork shaft. The combination of roughing and finishing enables a process chain tailored to the specific fork shaft. Machining operations before and after hardening can be specifically accounted for and integrated into an efficient manufacturing concept. This allows different component variants to be manufactured cost-effectively, reliably, and with consistent quality.
